Gloves
Skiers and snowboarders should wear gloves so that their
hands are not exposed to the cold as they descend downhill. Skiers use
their hands to grip poles, so gloves are particularly important. Snowboarders
must extend their hands for balance, so they need protection for the
hands as well.
Gloves that are used for daily wear are generally not appropriate for
the slopes. This is because they are not waterproof. Athletes should
look for Gore-Tex gloves to keep the skin dry.
For people who don't like wearing gloves there are other options to
protect the hands from the cold. Waterproof mittens allow fingers to
touch for extra warmth. Lobster style gloves group fingers into pairs
of two and three so that a skier can maneuver fingers and still have
the warmth of skin on skin.
