Skis were originally designed to help travelers move in regions covered in snow. Now, they are mainly used in sporting events and on the slopes. Skiing involves fewer bumps and bruises than snowboarding.

Wherever there is snow and mountains there are skis. However, it is widely known that ski conditions on the East Coast are not as good as they are on the West Coast. This is because the West Coast has a more powdery snow that is more conducive to good skiing.

Newcomers to skiing can always rent skis when they first try the sport out. Lessons can be taken individually or in groups. Individual lessons cost more, but progress is made more quickly because there is more one to one attention.
